The records consist of pamphlets, booklets, books, and manuscripts published about or for use in mission work in New Guinea by the American Lutheran Church and its predecessor church body, the Evangelical Lutheran Synod of Iowa and Other States. Box 1 contains pamphlets and booklets written to promote the work. Many are in German. They are arranged by author (if known) and title. Although each file may contain several items by the same author, the individual titles are noted. Boxes 2 through 17 hold books printed in the New Guinea languages of Amele, Bogadjim, Graged, Jabêm, Kâte, Nobonob, Azira, Halis-Namatanai, Laewomba, Saga, Sialum, Sio, and Zia. They include hymnals, scriptures, catechisms, calendars, and textbooks. They are divided by language and arranged by author (if known) and title. A translation of the title is included if available. Boxes 18 and 19 contain manuscripts in Graged, Iwam, and Kuman.

The ALC met as a delegate body biennially in October, the time and place of which was determined by the president and Board of Trustees. All boards and standing committees sent their reports to the president at least sixty days before the convention, so that he could have them printed and sent to the delegates twenty days before the biennial meeting.
